Back in the day, the Sunshine Millions used to be on national television – now you’ll have to dig for it on HRTV/TVG. And good luck searching for it online – the first few hits are all about last year’s installment (so well done, Magna). It’s a shame the annual California vs. Florida grudge match is so difficult to find this year – although it lacks a major star, there are many interesting horses running. Here are my picks for the day’s races:
Sunshine Millions Dash
I cannot pretend to know much about anyone in this field; as I don’t like to back Scott Lake or Rick Dutrow, I’ll just go with the likely favorite, You Luckie Mann.
Sunshine Millions Filly & Mare Turf
I’ll back a longshot in Peach Flambe.
Sunshine Millions Filly & Mare Sprint
Dearest Trickski and Lovely Isle seem pretty well-matched.
Sunshine Millions Turf
This may be the most competitive race on paper. Presious Passion, Icy Atlantic and Soldier’s Dancer all seem like they could win the day. I also have an eye on Unusual Suspect.
Sunshine Millions Classic
Delightful Kiss did get a terrible post position, but I still think he’s the class of the field. Having said that, Macho Again is a serious threat.
Sunshine Millions Oaks
I like Emmy Darling to win, but it’s hard not to like a California-bred named Ten Churros (even if that really makes me want churros now, although we don’t really have a reliable local source here).
Sunshine Millions Sprint
Georgie Boy gets Garrett Gomez back aboard, so I’m picking him over In Summation, despite In Summation’s love of synthetic surfaces. And my iPod just played ‘Georgie Boy’ by Jack L – it’s only wrong approximately 80% of the time when it comes to picking winners, so…
Sunshine Millions Distaff
It’s all about Leah’s Secret – especially without Romance is Diane.
I’m thinking this year’s bragging rights will go to California – we’ll see what happens tomorrow!
