Marathon — awesome, I had Muhannak across the board. That means I’ve already recouped my investment for the day. Sixties Icon was probably robbed, but I’ll take my winnings.
Turf Sprint — apparently Diabolical still has it, although Desert Code ran a great race to beat him. Interesting, and I really wish I’d had $2 on the winner!
Iavarone — why so orange? Still? Really?
Dirt Mile — Well done to all my fellow bloggers who picked Albertus Maximus. Very nice run.
Mile — Now that’s what I’m talking about. Goldikova is awesome — how about that acceleration? The scary part about it is to imagine how that failed to beat Zarkava (although of course taking down Henrythenavigator has been no problem for her in the past — I can see why he didn’t bother with trying the Mile).
Juvenile — I’m not sure Darley bought a Derby winner in Midshipman, but it was nice. Street Hero was not bad either, nor was Square Eddie. I also liked Terrain.
Juvenile Turf — Nick Luck just mentioned that Donativum beat a horse named Crowded House who won a Group 1 in Europe today. At exactly the same moment my Crowded House ticket from last year appeared in my living room. What does it all mean? *times passes* Apparently it means Donativum wins. Nice Tetrarch spots on Donativum, too; I’m excited to see that he has Swynford, John O’ Gaunt, Chaucer and Canterbury Pilgrim way back in his pedigree. (And speaking of spots, he has Bend Or in there too). And lovely flying dismount by Frankie Dettori. In case you were wondering what his name meant, it’s something appreciated by people like me who have spent too much time worrying about the Roman Empire.
Sprint — Wow, Midnight Lute. I’d completely written him off, but it looks like Bob Baffert is having a good day. I have to say that Midnight Lute was one of the horses who did the most posing after last year’s effort, so hey, good for him for defending his win. Garrett Gomez is not having a bad day either.
Turf — Hey, I had the trifecta — if I’d bothered boxing and betting it. (Edit: Oh, wait, I did not – thought Soldier of Fortune got up for third at first, but well done to Dancing Forever for getting a spot). I’d figured Conduit would be third, but nice closing effort. Oh well. But it sounds like we’ll see him again next year; nice to know that someone will be racing then (beyond, one hopes, Zenyatta). I wonder what was going on with Grand Couturier? Last place seems, well, an odd place for him.
Emirates Airlines ad — they have stars on the ceiling inside the plane, just like the food court at the Trafford Centre! Sweet!
Classic — I had Raven’s Pass in all my exotics; unfortunately I didn’t place any individual bets on him. Oops! And I was entirely wrong about Henrythenavigator — he can get a mile and a quarter. No shame for Curlin in that finish (especially given how wide he was), but I wonder if that makes Zenyatta horse of the year…
Nice to have a blogger who knows her history.
Well, I do have a bunch of degrees in that sort of thing…I have to use them for something! It might as well be handicapping.
Hey just one quick comment about Midnight Lute, I love Gomez today so I put the 4 with the 3 horses you picked in exactas and made out big…so thank you. I love your blog.
Glad someone’s doing well! Actually, I admit I’m not doing badly, but I only bet a few races; the Classic is where I really hope to make out!
My syndicate hit the early Pick Four and is alive to the late with Curlin as a single…
Smooth Air..7 of 12.
What do you drink?
Check out the next post as far as drink…
I thought the mojo might be risin when I saw your pick for the marathon matched mine. Good going. It’s been a slog but maybe I am finally getting synthetic racing. And you know what? Santa Anita was Perfect.
