The Fourth of July means fireworks and the Dwyer Stakes; this year’s installment certainly looks like a lot of fun on paper. While Nobiz Like Shobiz and Any Given Saturday are the headliners (and rightly so), it’s a very interesting field all around. Phipps homebred Sightseeing is also back in action and the intriguing Helsinki is aiming for his third win in a row. I’m comfortable throwing out the Derby for the majority of the field; it will be nice to have both Derby entrants back and the matchup with the maturing Sightseeing should be well worth seeing — if you are lucky enough to have a way to view the race.
There’s holiday sprinting too — Commentator takes on Istan, High Finance and Saint Anddan in the Tom Fool, also at Belmont. And as mentioned yesterday, Funny Cide will be representing for the New York up at Finger Lakes; good luck to him!
