The rescheduled Pennsylvania Nursery Stakes goes off Monday at 3.50, with Hard Spun as the main attraction. I’m glad to see he’s able to make the race despite the moving date, but it would have been nice if Philadelphia Park (‘and casino’) had been able to put it on Saturday or Sunday so that people with lives might actually be able to go.
I had a look at the cards for this weekend and I can see any number of races that could have been swapped around for it — it seems a particularly bad marketing move to leave your $8500 claiming race on the card when you have a race that more people have started to take notice of (thanks to Smarty Jones) and a local horse generating enough buzz that someone beyond the hard-core punter might actually want to see in person. Given all the changes with the casino side of things, it really reads as a missed opportunity to get the public out to the track.
But back to the race itself — on paper, it’s all Hard Spun; the DRF points out that the next highest Beyer for most of the field is 15 points lower. Wish I could be there — I’ll have to content myself with my picture of Danzig on my desk at work. At least they do have live video…
Update: Easy win for Hard Spun. I’ll be interested to see if Mario Pino gets to keep the mount moving forward.

Horse Racing, Hard Spun
Here, here with your comments about running this race on a Monday afternoon. Especially since they have a “buzz” horse in the race, God knows they don’t get that many really good horses at PP, you would think they have the sense to promote it when a good one shows up. I work about 30 mins from PP and will slip out of work a little early to see Hard Spun and maybe post something if inspired by my Monday afternoon visit to Bensalem.
