Colonial Turf Cup Day

There’s a nice article on the Jacksons and their hopes for Showing Up in today’s Colonial Turf Cup in the Washington Post today which includes some very upbeat (perhaps unexpectedly so, based on his reputation) comments about him from Barclay Tagg as well as his thoughts on Barbaro’s injury and recovery.

The other recent Barbaro articles cover his recent Breyerization in more depth; below is an excerpt:

“When there is a local connection with a Breyer horse, Drennen knows to expect a bigger demand and orders more of that mold. This year, Oxford Feed and Lumber had a booth at the Wilowdale steeplechases, and raffled off an autographed model of Afleet Alex as a promotion for the day. Already, Drennen has had inquiries about Barbaro items. “People are even asking for Barbaro hats, it’s Barbaro anything,” she said.”

I did enter the raffle at Willowdale for the Afleet Alex model, but I suppose I was not the winner. Of course, you can already get Barbaro hats and t-shirts here. (Perhaps it should be added that Showing Up also has a hat). Some other recent articles include one on his Fair Hill vet, Dr. Anderson, who has been contributing regularly to Tim Woolley Racing’s updates. There is more on how Barbaro’s celebrity has changed things at New Bolton.

In sad news, champion mare Paseana has died in Argentina.

In the hopeful column, we’ll be rooting for Nigel No Mates in the sixth race at Colonial Downs on Sunday. And let’s not forget Flower Alley is back in action at Monmouth Park in the Salvator Mile today…
