The Breeders’ Cup Turf – it’s like the Eurovision Song Contest, only without Malta!

PP Horse Jockey Trainer ML
#1 Champ Pegasus Joel Rosario Richard Mandella 10-1
Seems to be coming into his own on the grass of late.
#2 Winchester Cornelio Velasquez Christophe Clement 8-1
Has scored a number of G1 victories this year – but can he beat the visitors?
#3 Telling Javier Castellano Steve Hobby 20-1
Won the Sword Dancer as part of an otherwise somewhat lackluster year.
#4 Debussy (IRE) William Buick John Gosden 10-1
Arlington Million winner has been a bit inconsistent this year, but could be a serious threat should Workforce scratch.
#5 Al Khali Julien Leparoux William Mott 10-1
Has been very close, even in defeat, although perhaps not quite up to the standard of the European competitors.
#6 Workforce (GB) Ryan Moore Sir Michael Stoute 7-5
The Epsom Derby/Arc winner has had a light-but-impressive year, so he should have plenty left in the tank – and the ground should not be too firm for his liking – here’s hoping he does not scratch. Edit: I will not buy this record – it is scratched.
#7 Behkabad (FR) Christophe Lemaire Jean-Claude Rouget 9-5
Has a beautiful pedigree and might not have been able to get close to Workforce in the Arc, but is a strong contender here.
#8 Dangerous Midge Frankie Dettori Brian Meehan 12-1
Did not succeed against the very best in Europe, but seems useful.

Predictions: Workforce, Debussy, Behkabad, Winchester. Edit: In the absence of Workforce, I’m very high on Winchester and Behkabad.
