This is where things start getting quite exciting – the prospect of anyone beating Midday seems slight, but it’s a very interesting lineup indeed:

PP Horse Jockey Trainer ML
#1 Plumania (GB) Olivier Peslier Andre Fabre 8-1
French-based filly finished near the back of the pack in the Arc, but she’s defeated the likes of Youmzain before; she was second to Midday when they last met in September.
#2 Eclair de Lune (GER) Junior Alvarado Ron McNally 15-1
Won the Beverly D. in August, but has not raced since; was never able to beat the best in Europe.
#3 Miss Keller (IRE) Javier Castellano Roger Attfield 8-1
Well-bred filly by Montjeu has had success at Saratoga and Woodbine, but it’s a step up in class.
#4 Keertana Jose Lezcano Thomas Proctor 30-1
Fourth in the Flower Bowl last time; seems a little out of her element in this company.
#5 Shared Account Edgar Prado H. Graham Motion 30-1
Was second to Proviso in July, but proved less lucky in the Flower Bowl; tall order here.
#6 Harmonious Joel Rosario John Shirreffs 6-1
Very consistent filly could step up to represent for California.
#7 Midday (GB) Thomas Queally Henry Cecil 6-5
Since winning this race last year, she’s come back to beat the best in Europe (again) – and she should score a repeat victory here.
#8 Hot Cha Cha James Graham Philip Sims 30-1
Another solid performer, but is probably overmatched at this level.
#9 Hibaayeb (GB) Frankie Dettori Saeed bin Suroor 8-1
Came Stateside and won the Yellow Ribbon as a warmup for this race, but has been hit and miss in Europe.
10 Red Desire (JPN) Kent Desormeaux Mikio Matsunaga 8-1
Globetrotting Japanese filly had a bleeding problem that should be rectified with some Lasix here; she could go off at an attractive price.
11 Forever Together Anna Napravnik Jonathan Sheppard 10-1
No trips to the winner’s circle this year, but she’s been close.

Predictions: Midday, Plumania and Red Desire with Harmonious perhaps getting up for fourth.
