This is a tough one – lots of talent and a full field make it tricky to pick a winner. However, we will muddle through:
| PP | Horse | Jockey | Trainer | ML |
| #1 | My Jen | John Velazquez | Eddie Kenneally | 15-1 |
| Gallant Bloom winner seems to have settled in well at Churchill Downs. | ||||
| #2 | Sara Louise | Frankie Dettori | Saeed bin Suroor | 15-1 |
| Returned to the races with a third-place finish in the Gallant Bloom, behind My Jen and Moontune Missy; likely needed the tuneup. | ||||
| #3 | Secret Gypsy | Robby Albarado | Ronny Werner | 12-1 |
| Has some nice races to her credit and comes into the race off a three-win streak; this is a step back up in competition, though. | ||||
| #4 | Informed Decision | Julien Leparoux | Jonathan Sheppard | 7-2 |
| It can be foolish to bet against Julien Leparoux on Breeders’ Cup day; filly had some back luck last time and had to settle for third behind Dubai Majesty. | ||||
| #5 | Evening Jewel | Victor Espinoza | James Cassidy | 15-1 |
| Versatile filly has done well on turf and synthetics as well as dirt and should be one to watch at a price. | ||||
| #6 | Moontune Missy | Alan Garcia | Eoin Harty | 30-1 |
| Second in the Gallant Bloom in her last start; can she keep up with the best in this category? | ||||
| #7 | Gabby’s Golden Gal | Martin Garcia | Bob Baffert | 15-1 |
| Talented filly has beaten Proviso on synthetics – but it’s been a while. If she shows up with her best, however, she certainly has a good chance. | ||||
| #8 | Sweet August Moon | Mike Smith | Brian Koriner | 30-1 |
| Has some nice results in the past, but is she better on Polytrack? | ||||
| #9 | Switch | Joel Rosario | John Sadler | 20-1 |
| Has the distinction of having finished just behind Zenyatta in the Lady’s Secret; the real question is whether she can perform as well on dirt; rumor has it she is not enjoying the change in surface. | ||||
| #10 | Rinterval (IRE) | Rafael Bejarano | Eric Reed | 20-1 |
| Another runner-up to Zenyatta (this time in the Clement L. Hirsch) who also has an interesting previous record in Europe – once again, the question is the surface. | ||||
| #11 | Jessica Is Back | Javier Castellano | Martin Wolfson | 12-1 |
| Won the Princess Rooney and was third in the Ballerina last time out; has not started since late August. | ||||
| #12 | Dubai Majesty | Jamie Theriot | William Calhoun | 6-1 |
| Has won or been in the money all year – except in the Humana Distaff at Churchill Downs (though she did follow that up with a win over the same track). | ||||
| #13 | Rightly So | Cornelio Velasquez | Anthony Dutrow | 3-1 |
| Won the Ballerina and has been consistent all year; a solid competitor here. Edit: Scratched – she came up lame Friday am. | ||||
| #14 | Champagne d’Oro | Miguel Mena | Eric Guillot | 6-1 |
| Has been improving since cutting back in distance, but might be a notch below the best. | ||||
| AE | Tidal Pool | Mike Smith | D. Wayne Lukas | 30-1 |
| Has not finished in the money since May – though she was second to Blind Luck in the Fantasy Stakes prior to that. | ||||
| AE | First Passage | Garrett Gomez | Martin Wolfson | 30-1 |
| Her last win was in June last year. | ||||
Predictions: Informed Decision should return to her winning ways, and I may go for something a little exotic with Evening Jewel as runner-up. Dubai Majesty, Rightly So and Sara Louise may duel for fourth, though all are worth including. Edit: Now that Rightly So is out, things are wide open – so let’s include Rinterval, just for fun.
