Tomcito Out

Tomcito is apparently out of the Belmont with a ‘reaction‘ — no specifics were given on what might be going on there, but it would seem that the ranks are thinning for the race. Given the number of unpleasant things that have come out about Big Brown’s connections, it’s easy to slip into conspiracy theory mode and wonder if someone wanted the only horse who has already won at the Belmont distance out of the way, but given Tomcito’s recent form, one would have to think that any nefarious goings-on would more likely target Casino Drive (if anyone).

Now that I’m in need of a new longshot, Denis of Cork is looking more and more appealing. Rick Dutrow says that Big Brown knows something is up (presumably because he just got another set of new metal sutures in his foot — but is that really different from the lead-up to any other race for him?); if nothing else, I’m happy that I will likely get to see Einstein (pictured) on the Belmont undercard as he works toward the Arlington Million. Some horses just get better with age…

Denis of Cork is a very appealing long shot indeed.

And I’m betting he ends up the third choice – but hopefully his odds are not in the same ballpark as BB or CD’s will likely be.

I was looking at the Derby splits the other day and Denis of Cork really ran well, especially in the final quarter. He’s a very intriguing prospect in the Belmont …

Don’t count your chickens on Einstein running…knowing the issues with his connections…stay tuned.
