Keeping Lawyers in Work

While Curlin settles into a routine in Dubai, the legal wranglings continue; there is now a continuance until March 21st, mostly because of this:

[plaintiffs’ attorney Angela] Ford has repeatedly alleged that Gallion and Cunningham have subverted the legal system by hiding or sheltering assets. But Mary Meade-McKenzie and Andre Regard, attorneys for Gallion and Cunningham, countered during lengthy arguments Tuesday at the Franklin County Courthouse that they have complied with everything asked of them.

Which is funny, as it seems getting their financial records has been a little tricky:

But after being told Tandy attorney Andre Regard had not had time to submit an answer to the motion (which was filed Feb. 15), and hearing Ford’s frustrations in trying to obtain financial records for the defendants’ various companies, Crittenden delayed his ruling at least until March.

The motion filed by Ford asked the court to appoint a receiver to manage the affairs of Tandy, and to ‘authorize the receiver to do anything the company could have done, including sell assets’ to pay on the judgment. In addition to Curlin’s interest, Tandy’s racing arm, Midnight Cry Stable, also owns horses such as grade-I winner Einstein and stakes winner Stormin Baghdad.

Why this whole situation has yet to appear as a Ripped from the Headlines case on Law & Order is a mystery to me (especially since I’d really like to get Jack McCoy’s take on it) – surely they could easily tie it in with the whole NYRA fiasco? That point aside, I’d be happy to pass the hat to buy Einstein if he’s ever foreclosed upon (of course making sure that he stays with Helen Pitts) – anyone else want to chip in?

Wow, I just noticed that you have an L&O reference in your post about this too — hilarious.

Sweet! Great minds think alike. I think the only thing I miss about working for the Health Dept in NYC was having L&O outside every day.
