Crown of Thorns is off the trail with a shin injury (which makes me feel terribly prescient for not having added him to my Road to the Roses stable) but there will be plenty to watch in the Fountain of Youth this weekend. Anak Nakal and Court Vision are the two I am most interested in seeing (and I’m pleased that Anak Nakal ended up back with Julian Leparoux, who rode him to victory in the Kentucky Jockey Club Stakes). Z Humor is back in short order after his non-effort in the Sam F. Davis; I’m curious to see if the old-school turnaround time suits him (as well as Halo Najib, also coming off a relatively short layoff), but he’s only one of many (potentially) big names in the race — Cool Coal Man, Kentucky Bear, Monba, and Elysium Fields have all shown promise. So far, I’m still backing Anak Nakal.

The older turf stalwarts are in action as well — Einstein is back for another crack at the Gulfstream Park Turf, but he’s got a tough group to beat — notably Shamdinan. Here’s hoping Einstein brings home another win for Helen Pitts — anything to try to offset her having lost yet another promising three-year-old (Face the Cat was Curlined away from her stable recently).

But back to the Derby hopefuls; there’s also a horse named War Pass making his 2008 debut this weekend (and hopefully dryer than pictured), sneaking in on the Fountain of Youth undercard…
