USA vs. Brazil

As you are no doubt aware, we are nearing the finals of the Women’s World Cup; Germany secured their place at the big dance by defeating Norway today. The US faces off against a talented Brazil side tomorrow and for some peculiar reason coach Greg Ryan has decided that now is the time to switch goalkeepers (even though Hope Solo has not allowed a goal for over 300 minutes).

I think Ryan has been pretty level-headed so far (in that he has not made some of the egregious decisions of the sort that contributed to the men’s side looking like their old, unwelcome selves at the last World Cup), but I’m not thrilled with this particular decision. I understand the desire to get veteran Brianna Scurry playing time in what is presumably her final World Cup, but it seems an odd move at this point. Tune in to the game tomorrow to see how it turned out (and to watch some creative and possibly dirty play from some of the Brazillian stars).

What, you were expecting horse racing? Check back tomorrow for that.

Update: Well, when I’m right, I’m right…at least it should be a fun final. Terrible, terrible management decision.
