Snakes – Why Did It Have To Be Snakes?

There has been some progress on the cobra venom front — Patrick Biancone’s veterinarian, a Dr. Rod Stewart, has been suspended by the Kentucky Horse Racing Authority. Well, that’s what happens when you prescribe cobra venom, right? It’s not quite so simple — his suspension is for refusing to turn over his computer and records, which one naturally presumes under those circumstances are full of juicy gossip (even if it turns out there’s nothing of a particularly damning nature in them).

Biancone’s hearing date is still to be determined. As much as I admire a lot of the horses he has trained, I would be curious to see a statistical breakdown of their recent performances.

Rather than ending on that downbeat note, I suppose I should point out that there’s a paid workout for Street Sense race that should be big this weekend. The Travers, I think it used to be called…I may pull for Sightseeing.

As far as Hard Spun’s entry in the shorter-but-also-Grade-I King’s Bishop:

“It’s what the owner (Rick Porter) asked me to do,” Jones said with a shrug while sitting on a barrel just outside the stakes barn. “So that’s what I’m doing.”

I like that the Times Union had to put “Rick Porter” in parentheses, just to make sure we knew exactly which of Hard Spun’s owners were making the call…so I think my position will have to be ‘Come on, Teuflesberg!’

Great post…can you pool-bet on “anybody but Street Sense”? Nothing against the horse, just seems so sad that he’s not being challenged by anyone who has excelled in the past.

    I agree!

I wonder if he’ll feel a little bored and not put in his best effort, poor guy.
