The Woodward

The Woodward is shaping up to be a good race on paper, although it could certainly be quite a washout if Ernesto has anything to say about it. If Flower Alley is back to his usual self, he should be tough to beat, although the same might be said of Sun King. Funny Cide will go if the track isn’t too wet and I am interested to see Second of June in the list of entrants. I really like Flower Alley — I’d just like to see him run more than three times a year. Owner Eugene Melnyk is dedicating his performance to the memory of his breeder — one of the victims of the Lexington plane crash.

The Forego is also interesting — Commentator is back from an injury and he faces Greeley’s Galaxy, Judith’s Wild Rush and Silver Wagon, in addition to Pomeroy — I’ve always felt he was more talented than his performances indicated.

In California, the three-year-olds are back in the El Cajon; Brother Derek and Bob and John are the headliners, but I think at a mile Da Stoops should be reckoned with as well. In other three-year-old news, St. Louis Derby victor Lawyer Ron may next appear in the Super Derby — Brother Derek, Deputy Glitters and Flashy Bull are all possible runners too.
