While I was very excited to see Rags to Riches (right, in a great photo by Fran) back on the worktab (and in a bullet, no less), I noted that Lava Man had re-appeared as well. I suspect that his best days are behind him, but if he’s really up for another shot at [...] Pyro became the talk of the Derby trail with his win in the Louisiana Derby last weekend (not to mention his retirement plans); while his final sweep was impressive to watch, his Beyer was still comparatively low. Alan has some interesting perspective on that angle, however, and I’m agreeing with his assessment at this [...] The big question from this past weekend is what to make of the Fountain of Youth results — do they really tell us anything at this point? Nick Zito’s Cool Coal Man won, but the timing of the race had to be adjusted after an outrider apparently tripped the teletimer, leading to what seemed [...] Crown of Thorns is off the trail with a shin injury (which makes me feel terribly prescient for not having added him to my Road to the Roses stable) but there will be plenty to watch in the Fountain of Youth this weekend. Anak Nakal and Court Vision are the two I am most [...] This weekend sees the rescheduled Santa Monica, featuring Hystericalady and Pussycat Doll and the Strub (with Air Commander, Great Hunter, Slew’s Tizzy and Tiago all back in action) but the headline event should be the Donn Handicap.
